WeddingPlan Wedding Insurance Review

If you tried to get wedding insurance during the Covid-19 pandemic or even in the months and years that followed, you will know how difficult this was. Most wedding insurance companies put policies in place that excluded any Covid-related claims and some even stopped providing insurance altogether.

One such company was WeddingPlan that ceased insuring during the pandemic and have only recently started offering their services again. So, if you’re looking to get wedding insurance post Covid then this is a great company to consider.

Of course, as with any wedding insurer, there may be aspects of the WeddingPlan policy that doesn’t meet your needs. For this reason, I have put together this WeddingPlan wedding insurance review that will help you decide if this is the insurer for you.

WeddingPlan Overview

WeddingPlan has a 20 year history of providing affordable wedding insurance without compromising on the quality of the cover. Options start from just £39.99 which is significantly lower than some of the other wedding insurers I have researched.

This is a UK based company with call centres in the United Kingdom and I have found this to be one of the simplest wedding insurers to use. You can get an online quote in less than sixty seconds and everything is clearly laid out on the website in terms of what to expect and what your policy will cover.

Not only that but WeddingPlan is an award-winning insurer having won the Best Wedding Insurance Provider 2017 at the Insurance Choice Awards. What’s more, it’s been given the Feefo Gold Trusted Service standard since 2019.

Levels of Cover

WeddingPlan Wedding Insurance Levels of Cover

As I have mentioned, WeddingPlan offers cover from as little as £39.99 so if you’re looking for wedding insurance that isn’t going to break the bank then it’s well worth considering. However, there are nine levels of cover to choose from.

The £39.99 bronze package offers cancellation cover up to £2,500 and also allows you up to £750 in rearrangement cover. At the other end of the spectrum, there is the Premium + cover at £350. This is suitable for large weddings and will allow you up to £65,000 in cancellation cover as well as rearrangement of up to £16,500.

Of course, there are those seven options in between. What I love about WeddingPlan is the diverse range of options. Some insurers only have half this number of cover options so you may end up taking out more than you need but with the versatility of the WeddingPlan insurance options, that isn’t going to be an issue.

It is worth noting that, in almost all circumstances, an excess is payable. The excess amount differs according to the type of claim you’re making. For example, while the standard excess is £50, this rises to £250 when claiming personal or public liability.

What’s Covered By My Policy?

The amount of cover will differ depending on the level of cover you take out. However, WeddingPlan offers cover for the following:

  • Cancellation or rearrangement
  • Loss, theft or damage of wedding attire
  • Loss, theft or damage of wedding cake
  • Loss, theft or damage of flowers
  • Loss, theft or damage of gifts
  • Loss, theft or damage of transport
  • Ceremonial sword cover
  • Cover for injury or illness of family members

I think it’s also worth mentioning that WeddingPlan offers its customers cover for up to two ceremonies and two receptions. I know plenty of people that get married abroad but then want another celebration when returning to the UK. In situations like these, you won’t need to worry about doubling up on policies.

Understanding Your Policy

One of the things I found incredibly useful about the WeddingPlan website was their clear FAQ page. When reading policy documents, some of the legal jargon can be a little confusing. However, reading through the FAQs, I found it very easy to understand what was covered.

Moreover, I noticed that, throughout the website, there were links and references to various sections within the policies to make cross referencing easier.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s a dedicated documents page which contains a policy wording document. This explains everything in easy to understand terms so you won’t feel left in the dark about anything.

Making A Claim

I found the claims process with WeddingPlan to be simple and fast. There’s a phone number and an email address which you can use to make your claim and, as long as you have all of the evidence and information to hand, WeddingPlan can process claims in as little as one week.

Do note that you will need to gather all of your evidence before making your claim otherwise there may be delays.

I also like that the company aims to talk customers through their claim and the upcoming process when making a claim. It just makes everything feel so much less stressful.

Final Thoughts

WeddingPlan Wedding Insurance Conclusion

Funding a wedding is not cheap so finding wedding insurance that isn’t going to break the bank is a must for most couples. I found WeddingPlan to be an incredibly affordable option that still gives you a very good amount of cover. With prices starting at £39.99 and going all the way up to a Premium + option at £350 for up to £65,000 worth of cover, there’s something for everyone.

While WeddingPlan does not offer Covid-19 cover, there are a lot of nice additions to the policies such as the option to cover two ceremonies and two receptions.

The claims process is incredibly easy and, when everything is presented upfront, can be done in just one week so there’s no waiting around.

There were a couple of things that I thought were lacking such as limited cover abroad but at these prices, it’s certainly not a deal breaker. Generally, I think WeddingPlan is a reputable, quality insurer.

WeddingPlan Wedding Insurance FAQs

Does WeddingPlan offer cover for Covid-19?

While WeddingPlan is now providing insurance again after the pandemic, the company does not offer any sort of Covid-19 cover. The finer details of this can be found on the company’s website and I would strongly recommend reading through these to ensure you are familiar with what is and isn’t covered by your policy.

What level of cover do I need?

The level of wedding insurance cover you need depends on the value of your wedding. You need to consider the cost of things like venue hire, attire, rings, gifts, transport and flowers, among other things. Each level of cover will provide you with a set amount in the event you need to make a claim. Be sure to research what you’ll get for each cover option and this will help you to make the best decision.

Does WeddingPlan offer cover for weddings that take place abroad?

WeddingPlan does offer some cover for weddings outside of the United Kingdom but there are some restrictions. For example, you will not be able to take out personal liability cover if your wedding happens in Canada or the USA. Moreover, any wedding abroad will not benefit from things like ceremonial sword cover or marquee cover.

Do I really need wedding insurance?

If you plan on having a very small wedding that wouldn’t see you in a position of great financial loss should you have to cancel or postpone then you might not need wedding insurance. However, since the cost of the average wedding in the UK is over £18,000, wedding insurance is typically a good idea in most situations.

When will my wedding insurance cover start?

As soon as you make your payment, your wedding will be insured.

Is it possible to upgrade my cover?

You may find that the original policy you took out no longer covers your needs. In this case, WeddingPlan allows you to upgrade your policy. All you need to do is pay the difference as well as a £10 admin fee and your documents and cover will be updated.
