Introduction
Choosing the right wedding insurance for your big day is imperative but with so many providers out there, it can make making a decision difficult. I’ve created lots of reviews for various UK wedding insurers but I felt as though it would be helpful to create a concise article detailing the pros and cons of the best wedding insurance providers in the UK.
Here, I’m going to discuss some of the great (and not so great) things about the biggest names in wedding insurance in the country. My hope is that this information will aid you in making the right decision for your special day.
I would, however, urge you to consider that there are many other companies offering wedding insurance besides the ones I’ll include here. I would strongly recommend researching each option carefully and read the terms and conditions of the policies in detail before making a commitment.
1. WedInsure Wedding Insurance
WedInsure is one of the most well known wedding insurance providers in the country. Their policies start from less than £50 and there are 10 levels of cover to choose from. The lowest tier offers up to £5000 in cancellation cover as well as various other types of cover while the top package, which costs £250, gives you cancellation cover of up to £50,000. Let’s take a quick look at the pros and cons of this provider.

2. WeddingPlan Wedding Insurance
WeddingPlan is one of the most affordable wedding insurance providers in the UK. The company actually stopped providing wedding insurance for some time as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic but they’re back up and running with some brilliant options for cover. What I personally love about this provider is their versatile range of policy options. But there’s a lot more to discover so let’s take a look at what to expect from WeddingPlan.

3. Emerald Life Wedding Insurance
One of the things I noticed about Emerald Life wedding insurance was that there aren’t as many levels of cover. However, the cover that is offered is surprisingly versatile with cancellation up to $100,000 when you purchase the top tier. All of the standard things are included in your cover such as damage to gifts, cars, attire etc as well as personal liability and legal expenses. With cover available in most of the world, Emerald Life certainly has a lot going for it; let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons.

4. CoverMyWedding Wedding Insurance
The price of a policy from CoverMyWedding is about average so there won’t be any nasty surprises in terms of cost. The top level offers up to £50,000 worth of cancellation cover with a policy price of £249. All of the standard things are included with your policy such as attire, vehicles, gifts, cakes, flowers, photographs etc. There’s also the option to add on extras should you wish to tailor your plan. Here are my thoughts on the good and bad points of this insurer.

5. Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance
I was very pleased with the excellent range of cover options from Dreamsaver wedding insurance. However, I did notice that the policy price was slightly higher than average. But this shouldn’t put you off as Dreamsaver does have a lot to offer including all of the standard cover you’d expect as well as plenty of added extras like covid cover. In the table below, I’ll outline the pros and cons.

Final Thoughts
Choosing a wedding insurance provider can be something of a headache and many soon to be spouses are left scratching their heads and wondering which option is best. While I cannot provide an exhaustive list of every wedding insurance provider in the UK, those featured in this guide are among some of the best.
As with anything there are plus points and drawbacks to every option and the tables in this article are designed to outline these as clearly and concisely as possible. I hope that this information has made making a choice that little bit more simple.
Wedding Insurance FAQs
Will my wedding be covered if it is abroad?
Some wedding insurance providers offer cover for weddings taking place outside the UK but this is not a standard thing. Speak to your provider to be clear on what is covered.
Do wedding insurers cover civil ceremonies?
Yes. Most wedding insurance providers also cover other types of events like civil ceremonies.
Can I make a claim if my partner gets cold feet?
No. Wedding insurance only covers events outside of your control. One member of the couple cancelling because they no longer wish to get married is a conscious decision and therefore not covered.
Do I really need wedding insurance?
If it’s a very small and inexpensive wedding then you might not need cover although a basic package could give you some peace of mind. For the average wedding, it is advised to take out cover as this can save a lot of financial hardship should anything go wrong.
Is Covid-19 covered by wedding insurance?
While most wedding insurers do not offer covid cover, there are a few that are starting to consider this.
How much will my wedding be insured for?
The total amount of cover you can claim will be detailed in your package and this amount will differ depending on the package you have taken out. For more coverage, you’ll have to pay a higher premium.
